Scenes From A Sunday: Stromboli's

Have any of ya'll ever heard or watched this show?

It's about this guy who goes all over the country to find as he puts it, "The nation's best pig-out joints".  At the end of the show, he usually does some kind of local food challenge.  My husband is obsessed with this show.  I have to admit, it's kind of interesting, especially when he does the food challenges.  I can't imagine even attempting to eat as much food as this man does, but it sure is entertaining to watch him do it.

While we were watching this show on Sunday there was an episode where Adam Richman (the crazy foodie that does all the food challenges) was in New Jersey at Rutgers University.  He was at restaurant called Stuff Yer Face.  This place only makes stromboli's.  Stromboli's are basically a piece of dough that is stuffed with any yummy ingredients that you want and then baked in the oven.

As we were watching Adam Richman come up with his own version of a stromboli, all I could think was that that looked SO delicious.  I decided that I wanted stromboli's for dinner, so I jumped up and went into the kitchen to see what I could come up with.

We had a bag of Rhodes rolls in the freezer.  You know the ones I'm talking about right?  Basically the bag of frozen balls of dough.  So, I took 14 of those rolls out of the freezer and put them in the oven.  I followed the speedy thaw and rise method on the back of the bag.  The speedy method takes about an hour, so while I was waiting for them to rise I worked on finishing another project.  When they were done, I took them out of the oven and then I chopped up some Canadian bacon, tomatoes, spinach, and olives.  I pulled out some shredded cheese and a jar of spaghetti sauce and then I got to work!

I started by stretching out one roll till it was pretty flat.  Then I put some spaghetti sauce on it.

Then came all the yummy goodness inside.

Once that was all done I flattened out another roll and put it on top then I pinched the edges shut.

Here they are all ready to go in the oven.  These stromboli's are more like little stuffed pizza's, but the ones I saw on the show had a ancho chiptotle sauce in it and looked divine.  So, you can pretty much put whatever you want inside.  Be creative!  I made these on Sunday and I don't shop on Sunday's so I had to make do with what I had.  But, that's alright, because these were SERIOUSLY SO GOOD!

I wasn't sure how the kids would react to the stromboli's so I took 4 of the rolls and made little mini pizza's out of them.  I love doing stuff like this because it's really easy for the kids to help and Princess LOVES to help!

They LOVED them.  After their pizza's were done I put our stromboli's in the oven.  I cooked them at 400 degrees for 15 minutes.  After 15 minutes they looked pretty done, but then Dave had the good idea to add some cheese to the top.  After adding the cheese I put the stromboli's back in for another 5 minutes.

And here is a picture of all the yummy goodness that was inside.

I hope you give these a try and like I said, be creative!  Next time I make these I'm definitely going to try different ingredients and a different sauce!  Yum!

Enjoy!
